Destination Wedding in Capri, Italy

Five simple words: destination wedding in Capri, Italy. Those little words are enough to make your heart sing! Who wouldn’t want to get married in Capri? Or be invited to a fabulous wedding there? It’s easily one of the prettiest places I’ve ever been. The waters are an insane color of blue, the cliffs are dramatic, the beautiful flowers and lemons growing everywhere add so much color, the classic car taxis are guaranteed to make you smile, and the people watching is top notch. It’s no wonder this magical Italian Isle is a dream spot for a destination wedding. I was so thrilled to be able to create this wedding invitation suite for Paul and Paula. They wanted the beautiful simplicity of gold foil on luxurious white cotton paper, with their names and Capri, Italy in written in calligraphy. They opted for a sketch of the famous Capri rock formation, faraglioni, on the invitation, a simple lemon sketch on the reply card, and a sketch of the reception venue, Il Rocio Beach Club, for the envelope liner. This wedding was simple elegance at its finest. I was insanely jealous of Paul & Paula, Lance Nicoll (their uber talented photographer), and all of their lucky guests!

Stunning Phuket Elopement

I am so excited to share these images with you! This Phuket elopement, was my first elopement to work on and I had so much fun creating the announcement and accompanying pieces for this happy couple. Everything about this destination elopement was so beautiful. I love the romantic table setting with the incredible umbrella. Can this be where I eat all of my meals? Pretty please! The couple looks spectacular, the bouquet with tons of eucalyptus leaves is perfection, I’m even obsessed with the golf cart type thing! And don’t get me started on the pool. The pictures by the super talented Australian photographer, Sheri McMahon, will leave you wanting to plan a trip to Phuket and have your own beach side soiree! Is anyone else looking up flights to Thailand right now?

Vendor love: Kari Ellen Events

If you have browsed our blog or checked out our Instagram feed, you’ve no doubt seen some beautiful photos of a styled shoot that I worked on with Dallas wedding planner, Kari of Kari Ellen Events.  I have a serious business crush on Kari and wanted to showcase some of her work! I can’t say enough about how awesome she was to work with on this styled shoot; she was on top of everything, had incredible ideas, was super friendly, and inspiring to work with. Isn’t that exactly what you want out of an event planner? Yes! The answer is yes!

I met up with Kari last week for a non-coffee coffee date for me to pick up a piece to work on and we ended up chatting for a few hours about our experiences in the event business. Even though we have different careers, it was so rewarding, refreshing, and motivating to talk to someone who is in the same boat, so to speak. Sometimes people are territorial about their industry knowledge, which I can understand, but Kari was so easy to talk to and was happy to pass along information and ideas that could be helpful. It was awesome!

Please go check out her website, Instagram, and Facebook and drool over her work. Here are some pretties from events she’s planned to give you a taste.

Dreamy Kari Ellen Events Shoot

When the incredibly sweet and talented Kari, of Kari Ellen Events, reached out to me asking if I could provide calligraphy pieces for a styled shoot she was putting together I jumped at the chance to work with the group of amazing vendors she had in mind. The vision for this shoot was a dreamy and romantic with an emphasis on peach and plum colors. Based on her vision board I wanted to put down my standard pen and ink and went with brush lettering and a watercolor background on a pale pink paper. The pieces turned out just how I envisioned them! The plum on pale pink turned out to be a beautiful color combination that I want to use over and over again.

Every detail of this shoot had me seriously swooning. I don’t know how many compliments I gave out to everyone at the shoot, and boy did I mean them. Can I have the hanging floral arrangement above my table every day of my life? I’ll take six of the table settings. The hair, the makeup, the dress too. Okay, you get it, I loved this shoot!

Signature Drink Sign: Cavender Wedding

Who doesn’t love a good signature drink at a wedding? They are a great way to have liquor but not necessarily an open bar, plus they usually have fun names and you can make cute signs. Bonus points. This Texas couple took their signature drinks to a new level by having 8 {super delicious sounding} signature drinks for their outdoor reception! I had such a great time working on the chalkboard sign to display all 8 of the options. They definitely made me want a cocktail {or 8} and an invite to this fabulous fete put on by the always incredible DFW Events! The pictures of this wedding by John Cain were too beautiful to only show you one of the drink sign so enjoy!

French Country Romance Styled Shoot

Here’s a look at another styled shoot I worked on with Brides of North Texas. This one takes on a French Country inspiration and was designed by North Texas wedding planner Jen Rios of Jen Rios Weddings.  As someone who loves the French countryside, I was all about this shoot! Add lavender and I’m sold. I played with several different mediums for my calligraphy on this shoot: a wooden cheese board for the menu, a marbled glass for the signature drink sign, and a handkerchief for the invitation.  I had a blast working on this inspired shoot!

Stems of Dallas Eclectic Styled Shoot

One of the cool things about being a vendor with Brides of North Texas is the opportunity to work on their styled shoots they create. This particular styled shoot was designed by the always fabulous, Stems of Dallas {if you live in Dallas and you haven’t checked them out, do it now!} They styled this shoot with several eclectic touches that work so well together and give such a beautiful and semi playful vibe. The jewel tones, feathers, geodes, gold accents, rock candy, I love it all! And the rooftop garden at the Fairmont in Dallas isn’t too shabby either. My calligraphy was a more modern style and included an invitation suite, a special thank you tag that went on the guest’s plates, a cheers cocktail stirrer tag, and “you’re a gem” tags for the rock candy.

A Louisiana Wedding

Southern weddings are a thing of beauty in my opinion, and this Louisiana wedding was no exception. I’m a wannabe southerner! As a Texan, I don’t quite qualify, but a girl can pretend! Steel Magnolias left everyone wanting to be a girl from the south, right? Okay, enough of me wishing I had a Ouiser or Truvy in my life, back to the wedding. Brooke Casey of Brooke Casey Weddings planned this gorgeous New Orleans wedding and did such a marvelous job! Every detail was beautiful! The lace on the back of that dress? Yes, please. The eucalyptus leaves adorning the lanterns? Die. The church, the cake, the moss hanging from the oak trees. I really could go on and on. The couple looked so happy and beautiful!

I provided calligraphy for the wedding invitation envelopes, which featured a classic script style in a taupe color. In addition to the envelopes, I worked on day-of details like drink menu signs, a custom monogram crest, and a large gold and cream welcome sign for the wedding. Crests are one of my favorite things to work on. I love when I get to see photographs from the actual event and these are no exception! Just stunning!

Free “Dear Santa” Printables

Christmas is officially one week away! I don’t know how that happened or where the year went but here we are. I doodled a couple of “Dear Santa” letter toppers and wanted to put them up on the blog for anyone to download in case your little ones want to write a letter to leave for Santa on Christmas Eve. Nothing super fancy but I think they are cute! There are two different lettering styles and each have 3 different color variations. If you follow the link that is attached to each picture it will take you to the PDF. It’s set up at 300 dpi so it should look good when you print it out. Just a note, I made the image fairly large but you can scale it down in whatever program you print with (word, photoshop, etc.)

I hope that everyone has the merriest Christmas this year! Sending lots of warm holiday cheer your way!

Social Media Baby Announcement

Hey everyone! I hope you’re enjoying your December so far. It’s been a really fun month here at Polished Pen with so many clients thinking of special and meaningful ways to incorporate calligraphy. One of my favorite clients who I’ve worked with several times in the past just found out she is expecting a baby and wanted something lettered to announce it to family and friends on social media and I had so much fun working on this piece! It was perfect timing too; Pantone had just released the 2016 color of the year, and she wanted pink and blue incorporated in the announcement. This baby is already on trend. I really love how this turned out and it was so fun to be able to work on something so special to my clients! Congrats Sarah & Collis!
